Message from the Founder
Creating a world where Japanese people and people who truly love Japan can connect easily and safely. That is the vision behind Ohanasi Kagawa.
Even first-time participants can join with confidence
The reason I started Ohanasi Kagawa came from one simple feeling: the frustration of wanting to connect, but not being able to.
When I decided to attend a university in the United States, I was studying English in my hometown of Kagawa. As I kept learning, I felt a stronger and stronger desire to actually speak with people from other countries.
But no matter how hard I searched, I could not find a place that felt right for me. Because I was living in a rural area, there were very few opportunities to meet international people in a casual and comfortable way.
“If it doesn’t exist, I’ll create it myself.”
That was the moment Ohanasi Kagawa began. At first, I started by organizing offline exchange events where Japanese people and international participants could meet and connect.
Turning Point
While I was studying in the United States, the COVID pandemic changed everything. During that time, I asked myself what I could do in a world where people could no longer meet freely. That was when I decided to bring Ohanasi Kagawa online.
Vision
A world where Japanese people and people who love Japan
can connect easily, naturally, and safely
In today’s society, there are still invisible barriers between Japanese people and people from other countries. These are not only language barriers, but also the lack of spaces where people can connect with real peace of mind. When those barriers are removed, people can find meaningful relationships not only in Japan, but all around the world. Their perspective expands, and they begin to see new possibilities for how life can be lived.
Start by experiencing it for yourself
Mission
I have a particularly strong passion for supporting young people.
I believe that in order for young people to discover their potential and live with hope,
they need more than just the values they see around them in Japan.
They need to know the world, encounter different ways of thinking,
and realize that there are many different ways to live a fulfilling life.
What made me truly realize this was my friendship with my best friend from Sweden.
When I was younger, I was not very good at building deep friendships. Most of the relationships I had felt shallow, like they were only there to fill loneliness. But with him, even though our language and cultures were different, we were able to understand each other deeply.
We supported each other with language, shared our cultures, and built trust little by little. That experience changed the way I see human connection. It made me realize that the people who truly understand and value you may exist anywhere in the world.
Service
Our role is to become a bridge between Japanese people and people who truly love Japan.
That is why we support the full journey: meeting, learning, and building deeper relationships.
A place to discover new connections and practice real conversation. Because we emphasize one-on-one conversations, it is easier to build real relationships than in typical group settings.
A learning space for people who want to speak Japanese more confidently. With our original conversation-focused curriculum, learners build the practical skills they need to actually connect.
A service where you can find the language partner who truly matches you, have deeper conversations, and build lasting relationships based on trust and mutual support.
Connection
People who met through Ohanasi Kagawa have gone on to stay connected and even meet in person, building relationships that continue beyond the screen.
Safety
I feel that safety is often overlooked in many international exchange apps and events. In some spaces, solicitation or dating motives make it difficult for people to focus on building genuine relationships.
That is why we care deeply about safety. When people feel truly safe, they can open up, focus on communication, and build relationships based on trust, respect, and peace of mind.
This community was created for people who want to connect but have not had the right chance yet.
Your meaningful next connection may be waiting here.
Free to join, beginner-friendly, and available in both Japanese and English
